Choir Piano Accompanist - Horizon Middle School
Bismarck Public Schools is accepting applications for a Piano Accompanist for Choir at Horizon Middle School. This position follows the school calendar.
There are six 45 minute periods in the day. Evenings and some weekends are included as needed.
Purpose Statement
The Accompanist provides essential musical support for rehearsals and performances. This position is responsible for accompanying students during rehearsals, auditions, and performances, ensuring the highest level of musical preparation and support for both students and the choir director.
Supervisory Relationship
Reports to: Principal
Essential Functions
- Accompany Rehearsals and Auditions:
- Accompany all chorus rehearsals, including dress and technical rehearsals.
- Provide accompaniment for sectional rehearsals as needed.
- Play voice parts during rehearsals to assist with learning.
- Accompany students for audition recordings and live auditions for festivals, honor choirs, etc.
- Prepare Accompaniment Recordings:
- Create recordings of piano accompaniment or individual vocal parts for students as needed for learning and practice.
- Accompany Performances:
- Accompany the chorus during all school year performances.
- Additional community performance accompaniment are possible
- General Assistance:
- Provide other assistance for the choir as requested and agreed upon.
- Other Duties:
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the choir program.
Job Requirements
Skills
- Proficiency in piano accompaniment, especially in choral settings.
- Ability to read and play vocal scores accurately and efficiently.
- Strong organizational skills to prepare and manage accompaniment recordings.
Knowledge
- Familiarity with choral rehearsal techniques and processes.
- Understanding of vocal parts and ensemble accompaniment.
Abilities
- Work effectively with students in rehearsals and performances.
- Collaborate with the director and students to ensure high-quality performances.
- Adapt to various musical pieces and performance needs throughout the school year.
Responsibility
Accompany rehearsals, auditions, and performances with precision and professionalism. Provide recordings and additional assistance as necessary for student success.
Work Environment
Primarily works in a school rehearsal space or performance venue. Occasional community performances may require work outside standard school hours.
Experience
Previous experience accompanying choirs or working in a similar musical role is preferred

Criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance required
