Express Employment Professionals has partnered with a La Crosse area non-profit organization and we are searching for an experienced Staff Accountant to join their team. Under supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant processes daily transactions and completes routine processes and procedures with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. This position will also collaborate with the team to accomplish tasks from the benefits department as well.

This is an immediate direct hire opportunity!

Salary: $40k - $70k based on experience

Job Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Accurately process simple and complex daily transactions with flexibility to apply standard policies and accounting concepts consistently to different segments of business.
    • Cash Receipts/Deposits
    • Deposit and Loan Requests
    • Property Claims Disbursement Requests
    • Vendor invoices
    • ACH, Check, and Manual Payments
    • Other transactions as assigned
  • Process Payroll, including documentation in core software and transacting payment of withholding taxes and other benefits.
  • File transaction records as defined.
  • Maintain supplies inventory records and initiate the purchase process for routine replenishment and as requested by management.
  • Per established procedures, assists with the following:
    • Program review, reconciliations and customer inquiries as directed.
    • Weekly billing and allocation of administrative time and materials.
    • Preparation of professional communications for projects and audits.
    • Periodic review for missing vendor invoices, withdrawals, and other payment requests.
    • Preparation of Customer Statements and Finance Charges.
    • Identification and preparation of billing adjustments.
    • Preparation and distribution of routine invoices.
    • Computation and posting of deposit and loan interest.
    • Preparation and distribution of deposit and loan statements.
    • Preparation of professional communications for projects and audits.
  • Complete ad hoc and special projects as directed.
  • Assist with compliance reporting such as annual PCORI, W-2, and 1099.
  • Assist with the Quality Review process in the benefits department.
  • Other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Education combined with appropriate occupational experience in related field totaling 5 years Will consider other acceptable equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Accounting experience with basic understanding of GAAP, internal controls, general ledger accounting, receivables, payables, payroll, and standard business practices.
  • Experience with professional General Ledger Accounting software required.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe, electronic filing, and other program applications
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
  • Critical thinking with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, recognizing errors and exceptions.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated poise, tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues and collaborate with all levels of management.
  • The ability to act responsibly, confidentially, and ethically when working with financial and personal information.
