About this units

This Maternal Child Health Float RN will float to NICU, Labor and Delivery, Mother Baby and Peds

The NICU is a 29 bed Level 3 neonatal critical care unit, caring for neonates 28 weeks and up. A Neonatologist and NNP are on the unit 24 hours a day. NICU nurses are NRP certified and attend all high risk deliveries in labor and delivery. NICU nurses along with a multidisciplinary team participate in transporting infants from neighboring hospitals to Beaumont Dearborn's NICU.

The Family Birth Center includes 15 LDR rooms, 1 natural birthing suite, a 7 bed Triage, 3 ORs, 3 recovery beds, and 10 antepartum beds. Approximately 3,500 deliveries per year.

The Mother Baby Care Unit is a 28-bed unit that cares for postpartum patients and newborns. Includes rotation within the maternal child health units with training.

The Pediatric department is a secured 13 bed unit which cares for patients from newborn to 18 years of age. We care for low to moderate acute pediatric patients in a family centered care environment. Our nurses are certified in PALS.

Scope of work

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Diploma in Nursing Required
  • Bachelor's in Nursing Required within 5 years if new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) or Canadian Heart & Stroke Required upon hire
  • NRP within 6 months of hire/transfer
  • Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years
  • 2 years experience in either L&D, Mother Baby, NICU, or Peds is required
