About the role
The Royal College of Surgeons of England is looking for Examination Officers to join the Surgical Team as they are recruiting Examination Officers to support the day-to-day administration of their clinical examinations. The role involves preparing and dispatching examination materials, coordinating examiner arrangements, and liaising with external centres to ensure the smooth running of exams. Example of responsibilities include managing examiner expenses, supporting both examiners and candidates, and arrange accommodation for examiners and staff. The position includes occasional travel (within the UK and overseas), weekend work, and flexibility during exam periods.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and dispatch examination materials, including clinical props and equipment, as directed.
- Coordinate arrangements for examiners, including travel, accommodation, and other logistical needs.
- Liaise with external exam centres to ensure the smooth running of examinations.
- Oversee candidate administration, including eligibility checks and providing assistance on exam days.
- Support quality assurance processes post-examination.
- Supervise exam sessions, including ensuring candidate compliance with schedules and identity checks.
- Compile and verify examination scores and related data.
- Manage examiner queries and provide administrative support as needed.
- Participate in examiner training days and support committee meetings, including booking facilities and taking minutes.
- Ensure compliance with College policies on data protection and record management.
About you
Qualifications
A good all-round education, including A-levels or equivalent.
Skills/Experience
Experience in an administrative role, ideally in an examination or education setting.
Strong communication and written skills, with the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
Good numeracy and IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent organisational abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Experience in arranging logistics, such as travel and accommodation, is desirable but not essential.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.
