Plains is currently looking to fill the position of Mechanical Technician (millwright) for our Plains Petroleum Transmission Company (PPTC) pipeline system. Reporting to the Team Lead and working out of our Fort Whyte facility near Winnipeg, Manitoba, you will be responsible for performing scheduled and unscheduled mechanical maintenance on our facilities, including the pipeline and associated assets. You will be subject to call outs for service work as well as emergency response.

Permanent residency within 100 km of the facility is a condition of employment and preference will be given to local candidates.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, install, inspect, troubleshoot (test, operate), and/or repair stationary and rotating mechanical equipment in accordance with training, design parameters, instructions, assignments, schedules, and priorities set by the manager.
  • Assure equipment reliability and ensure work is compliant with requirements applicable to skilled trade.
  • Operate heavy equipment (eg, forklift, man-lift, picker truck) as required.
  • Provide technical input and assist with scope development for operations, projects, and turnarounds, as required.
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance, repair, and modification of equipment and associated mechanical items and complete test and maintenance reports as prescribed.
  • Review and evaluate original equipment and manufacturer manuals, blueprints, schematics, and control and process documentation (eg, piping and instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams) to synthesize and integrate into test and maintenance procedures.
  • Monitor, detect, log, resolve, and/or escalate operational, environmental, and safety issues, including equipment and material deficiencies, as prescribed.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels (ie, equipment, materials/supplies) and documentation as required and prescribed; ensure procured equipment meets standards of design and performance.
  • Create and maintain records and documentation and submit work orders, requests, and reports as required.
  • Ensure work area is maintained in a clean and orderly condition as prescribed.
  • Assist with audits, non-routine inspections, and lessons learned as required.
  • Demonstrate competency and assist with functional competency assessments as prescribed.
  • Help optimize production, shift handover, and safety meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Certified Interprovincial Journeyperson-Industrial Mechanic (Millwright).
  • Working knowledge of engine and pump operation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Line locating, pigging, and pipefitting experience considered strong assets.
  • Experience with micrometers, calipers, tolerances, clearances, and related operating parameters.
  • Basic electrical knowledge required; understanding of welding procedures an asset.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams) and ability to complete computer-based training.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills as well as ability to work alone and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to understand and interpret equipment manuals, service notices, and related electronic communication and data.
  • Organized and able to keep records and manage time efficiently; experience using computer-based maintenance management systems (CMMS) an asset.
  • Able to occasionally lift or carry moderately heavy equipment or parts and position them during maintenance activities.
  • Able to work in confined spaces (stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing) and walk distances in all types of terrain.
  • Able to work outdoors in extremes of heat and cold.
  • Permanent residency within 100 km of the Fort Whyte facility.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean abstract.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company's drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
